Trauma Survivors
Have you experienced trauma? There are many types of traumas: sexual, relational, abuse, violence, accidents, loss, or combat, among others. You may feel panic or avoidance when confronted with reminders of your trauma or emotional disturbance such as depression and anxiety. The Gottman Institute is a research-based organization founded by Drs. John and Julie Gottman that specializes in relationship and couples' therapy. Their approach is grounded in decades of scientific research on what makes relationships succeed or fail.
The first step to successful couples' coaching is to ensure both partners are invested in making the relationship work and willing to make changes in their own behavior.
Throughout coaching I will teach you the behaviors and skills necessary for a healthy relationship and then help you internalize the skills you've learned by practicing them during our sessions. You then take those skills home with you to use in your everyday life.
You will learn the six factors that contribute to divorce, including the "Four Horsemen." We will talk through which of these are present in your relationship, and I'll help you become aware when you use them. This facilitates change.
You will be taught the seven principles that make marriage work. We will discuss ways you can integrate these principles into your own relationship.
We develop your emotional intelligence so you can recognize your feelings and be able to express them constructively with each other.
